Michelle Markus has been the principal clarinetist of the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra since 2007. She is also the bass clarinetist of the Boston Civic Symphony. She enjoys a variety of musical activities, from opera with the Friends of Performing Arts in Concord (Amahl and the Night Visitors, The Merry Widow, La Boheme) to Frank Zappa’s The Adventures of Greggery Peccary with the Concord Chamber Orchestra. Her principal teachers include Louis Turro and Jonathan Cohler for clarinet, and Michael Cleveland and Angelo Frascarelli for orchestral studies. She holds a PhD in biophysics and works as a Research Scientist at Bruker BioSpin Corporation specializing in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) applications.
